An Adventurous Elopement in Waimea Canyon in Kauai
I was speechless when Lauren and Sarah asked me to travel to Hawaii for their Kauai elopement, utterly speechless! What an incredible adventure these two beauties were asking me to go on! Being a part of anyone’s wedding or elopement is a huge honor, but I couldn’t say yes fast enough for a wedding in Hawaii! I had never been to the island of Kauai before, so I was excited to explore some unseen land. It was a wild landscape to get married in. Kauai is green, lush, and has the most insane mountain views and the warmest blue waters. I felt like I had left earth. Imagine that - a wedding on another planet! The island is so beautiful it is akin to a spiritual experience. It made for an unbelievable wedding backdrop.
Photographing the Hawaii Elopement of a Lifetime
We started the day with a fun long drive to Waimea Canyon. We would get out along to way to sightsee. Once we got to a hiking area with an overlook, we decided to stop, but of course, it starts raining. Lauren and Sarah could care less about this, though, and felt it was meant to be. The universe was on our side for this Hawaii elopement. I appreciated this attitude so much. So they went on a muddy hike with me to this amazing overlook with their dresses and their bare feet and laughed the whole way as we embarked on this low-key dangerous and steep hike for the perfect spot.
It was one of the most insane and coolest things I have ever done. I intend to build my reputation as a Hawaii wedding photographer, and this was an adventure session with spontaneous brides! After we shot around the overlook, we drove down the canyon till we hit these series of red dirt hills. It made for the most beautiful and unique Hawaii wedding photos from the whole day. We ended our day by watching the sunset at the closest beach we could find. The girls jumped into the ocean for the “final trash the dress” moment. It was so cool to see them be so carefree and happy. Once they got changed into some dry clothes, we ended the day by looking at the stars and drinking wine on the beach. It was so lovely, I can’t wait to shoot another epic Hawaii wedding.
